Harried Hawk

Posted by Matthew (Baton Rouge, United States) on 29 July 2007 in Animal & Insect.

As I was coming home from work a few months ago, I heard some birds making quite a noise in a tree close to my house. As I passed by I saw that the birds were harassing a hawk that had just made a kill. I went home, grabbed my camera, and started snapping away. I am still quite new to telephoto photography, so this image received lots of post-aquisition processing (obviously). You can see that the hawk still has its prey in its clutches, but it is being watched by two smaller birds who will not let the hawk rest.
